Microsoft has announced that Publisher, the company’s publication layout service, will be gradually discontinued and completely abandoned by 2026. With this, the company reveals that the expectations for this service, which has been in existence for over 30 years, have not been met for some time, so Microsoft has made the decision to remove it from the equation.

Microsoft Publisher is one of the programs that has been accompanying the Office 365 professional package for a long time. It is possible that many users have never known about this service, since, apart from the fact that it is currently being very little used, it is only available for paying users.

Publisher support will be discontinued in 2026

Through a post on their official blog, Microsoft has announced that Publisher will no longer be part of their plans as a service in the future. As always, to ensure a smooth transition for individuals and companies, they will continue to provide the service for a reasonable amount of time for users to find alternative services. However, in October 2026, the service will be officially discontinued.

When the service expires, it will no longer be part of Microsoft 365, so it will no longer be accessible. In the meantime, people who were using this service will have two and a half years to find an alternative that suits their interests.

The new star is Copilot

On the other hand, while some services already have their death announced, there are others that continue to expand. That is the case of Microsoft Copilot, the Artificial Intelligence on which the company is focusing a large part of its marketing. In fact, in recent days, the Microsoft Teams de Chat 365 service has already been renamed as such, and months ago, Bing Chat also came to an end so that Copilot could also take control.

This is an aggressive strategy by Microsoft, who wants to follow the course of the technology industry, which has focused most of its interest on everything related to Artificial Intelligence. And it is that, Copilot, although it only has one name, encompasses a very extensive portfolio of services within it and that is increasingly part of more applications within Microsoft.
