Netflix has just released the most anticipated trailer of the year: that of One Piece. The streaming platform got the rights to the best-selling manga of recent years (and most watched series) some time ago, and since then has worked hand in hand with Eiichiro Oda to make its adaptation better than those of Death Note or Cowboy Bebop… which were big failures.

Until now, we knew some details about the series, such as the main cast or the designs of the ships used, but everything was kept in an aura of curious mystery. But now we have been able to see the first trailer of the series and it looks… surprising.

Discover the first One Piece trailer

In the trailer we can see that the series literally adapts the East Blue arc from One Piece. We see how Luffy embarks in search of a crew, how Shanks saves him from a giant fish as a child, how he recruits Zoro and the group dynamics between them, Nami, Usopp and Sanji.

In addition, we have seen a first glimpse of the clown pirate Buggy, played by Jeff Ward as if he were Batman’s Joker, and also what we were waiting for the most: the protagonist’s powers. At the end of the trailer we get a glimpse of what his Gomu Gomu no mi fruit attack looks like… and I have to say that I was very surprised by the CGI.

Be that as it may, the series can still be a hit or miss. It will all depend on the final approach to the story and how Netflix has adapted it. It will premiere on August 31, 2023, so we’ll just have to wait until the end of the summer to see the Mugiwara in action.
