When is Silent Hill 2 Remake coming out?

As we mentioned, Silent Hill 2 Remake is almost here. The popular survival horror arrives in stores worldwide this Tuesday, October 8.

What is the price and on which platform is it released?

The official launch price for Silent Hill 2 is $76.99 for the standard edition, which includes the base game, a Robbie the Rabbit mask, and a Mira the dog mask.

Konami also offers a Deluxe Edition which includes all the content of the standard edition plus a digital art book, digital soundtrack, Pyramid Head mask, and 48-hour early access (in other words, you can play it from NOW).

The launch platforms for both the standard and deluxe versions are PC and PlayStation 5. As for the Xbox Series X | S edition, Microsoft console players will have to wait a year to enjoy the game due to temporary exclusivity with PS5.

Who is behind the Silent Hill 2 remake?

For many, it was a real surprise when the rumors began to emerge, but behind the remake of Silent Hill 2 is Bloober Team. The Polish team is a regular in horror video games, as evidenced by many of its productions such as Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, or The Medium.

The first rumors about the return of Silent Hill 2 emerged in summer 2021, when the Polish studio announced a strategic cooperation agreement with Konami. At that time, there were hints about which saga Bloober Team might be working on, but we had to wait for more than a year—September 2022—for the details to be leaked: the Polish team was developing Silent Hill 2 Remake.

A month after this leak, Konami confirmed the development of the remake of the second part, as well as a large array of games. Additionally, it was confirmed that Silent Hill 2 Remake was being developed with Unreal Engine 5 as its engine.

Are the original members of Silent Hill 2 involved in the remake?

One of the most common questions when a remake arises is whether part of the original team will be involved in the new work. There are plenty of reasons to hope for this, as they will best understand this new production, since they were working on the foundations of the original.

In the specific case of Silent Hill 2 Remake, we have confirmation that important names from the original are also present here. For example, Masahiro Ito, creature designer, has returned to contribute his creativity to this remake, as well as Akira Yamaoka, the renowned composer of a soundtrack that is already universal.

As a curiosity, Konami wanted the remake to have more changes compared to the original, but it was Bloober itself that insisted on maintaining the essence.

How has Silent Hill 2 Remake been received?

There were many doubts about how this remake of Silent Hill 2 would be received by specialized critics. There were plenty of reasons to think this, as Bloober Team’s games tend to be mediocre, with the latest The Medium leaving much to be desired—even the studio itself admitted they needed to earn trust. Fortunately for everyone, the remake has turned out very well.

According to the website Metacritic, responsible for compiling scores from all media, Silent Hill 2 Remake currently holds an 87 out of 100 average. The rating is high considering that there are already 55 reviews published at the time of writing. These numbers refer to the PlayStation 5 version, while the PC version holds an 86 out of 100 with 7 reviews published.

As can be seen, the remake of Silent Hill 2 has performed very well. Now it’s just a matter of continuing to take advantage of this momentum.
