The superhero film genre has reached its peak in recent years, with more releases than ever and superheroes we never imagined would grace the big screen starring in all sorts of movies. However, despite this trend extending beyond Marvel and DC Comics, there’s one hero we haven’t seen since the ’90s and have been missing lately: Spawn.

During the 1990s, after Frank Miller and Alan Moore reinvented comics with dark and grim stories, superheroes went through a somewhat strange period where it seemed that the darker everything was, the better. In this context, Spawn was born, a character created by Todd McFarlane that popularized Image Comics for a while. And with his success, of course, came the 1997 movie… which is best not to remember.

The new Spawn will arrive very soon

Despite how bizarre that film was, a reboot of its story is currently in the works produced by Blumhouse, the studio behind “M3GAN,” “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” and “The Exorcist: Believer.” It is expected that the movie will, therefore, have a clear horror tone, and there’s already a confirmed lead actor: Jamie Foxx.

Yes, I’m going to bring the Blumhouse advantage,” explains Jason Blum, the founder of the studio. “It will be bold and original compared to other superhero movies. It will definitely feel like the Blumhouse version of a superhero film.

Todd McFarlane himself is involved in the script for the movie, so it’s clear that Blumhouse is going all out to make the best possible adaptation. We still don’t have an official release date, but it has been announced that it will be in 2025. This means that filming is expected to begin after the SAG-AFTRA strike.
