20 years later: the legacy of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace”

Love them or hate them, the prequels are a part of the Star Wars universe. Jar Jar Binks is in the same universe as Yoda and Darth Vader, and Force ability is the result of midichlorians existing in the bloodstream. “‘The Phantom Menace’ is one of my favorite movies,” George Lucas said at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, “and, of course, Jar Jar is my favorite character. Ahmed [Best], you did a fantastic job. It was very very hard.”
“Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” has a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the film had an undeniable impact not only on Star Wars, but on global cinema. YouTuber StarWarsOnly has a lot to say on the film’s legacy:
