Last week Steam launched Steam Tags, which gives gamers the ability to tag games. This is supposed to create better ways of finding games you like, based on how other people have tagged them. Now the system has been updated with a reporting option, after some Steam users started giving games humorous, offensive or ironic tags.
Now, next to every tag you will have the option to report it as offensive/abusive, inappropriate, unhelpful or a spoiler. Yes, some gamers helpfully tagged some games with huge spoilers, Bioshock Infinite being one memorable victim. The system also now requires tags to be applied by more than one user before it will appear in popular tags sections, recommended tags will only be suggested if when they apply to multiple games and swear word filtering has been improved.
Another suggested improvement from users is to prohibit people tagging games they do not own, which might stop some of the less accurate or serious tagging, but so far Steam has not responded to this. Some users are also asking for a feature to turn off community tags.
