Every day that passes, streaming television resembles traditional television more and more. The only difference is that it costs much more money. Netflix was the one who started the subscription fees with ads, and then Disney and others followed suit. Fortunately, it’s not all bad news.
Netflix is celebrating that its advertising-supported plan has reached its one-year anniversary by adding new features. The most interesting one is this: for every four episodes watched continuously, it rewards you with a fifth episode without ads.
Of course, it’s not a bad way to tempt users to keep watching the series for one more episode… although it seems difficult to achieve for many customers. Who has 3/4 hours free to watch Netflix without stopping?
More updates and advantages for the cheaper plan.
Netflix is also rolling out downloads for its ad-supported tier, claiming to be the first streaming service to make this option available to users with ads included.
While the binge-watching service won’t launch until early 2024, the ability to download series and movies should be available by the end of this week.
However, it is not clear whether downloaded programs will enjoy the feature of “binge” once available.
For a company that claimed it would never include an ad-supported tier, Netflix has expanded its offerings since its launch in November 2022.
Netflix’s ad-supported plan is by far the cheapest option after the streaming service removed its basic tier in mid-2023. This tier allows for two simultaneous streams, and the video quality has been upgraded to 1080p from 720p.
