Since its release, Stardew Valley has marked a before and after in the farming simulator genre, capturing the attention of thousands of players for nearly a decade. This cultural phenomenon, created by Eric Barone, has maintained its relevance thanks to free updates that enrich the experience, the most recent being version 1.6, which includes quality of life improvements and specific fixes for consoles.
Stardew Valley takes a back seat in its plans
However, Barone has decided that it is time to focus entirely on his new project, Haunted Chocolatier. In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the developer confirmed that, after finishing the pending tasks for the latest update of Stardew Valley, he is committed to working exclusively on the new title. “1.6 is pretty settled. I commit to not working on Stardew Valley until I finish Haunted Chocolatier,” Barone stated.
Despite his dedication to this new project, Barone expressed that he could not completely distance himself from Stardew Valley. “Am I ever going to leave Stardew Valley completely? I don’t think so, I’ll never say that,” he commented. Over the years, he has repeatedly mentioned the possibility of returning to the game, reflecting his deep attachment to the franchise and its fanbase.
The creator also highlighted his concern for providing a satisfying experience to Stardew Valley fans, something that has influenced his development process for Haunted Chocolatier. Barone has even considered the option of retreating to a cabin in the woods, with no internet connection, to fully focus on the new title. “It’s going to take some time,” he concluded, emphasizing his intention to maintain a relaxed and stress-free approach to development while remaining committed to the legacy of Stardew Valley.
