Unusually for a new MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online has a monthly subscription fee. It’s more common for games like this to be ‘free-to-play’, with premium features you can buy to speed up your progress or customize your player. Developer Zenimax Online has said the subscription model makes for a better game, as ‘free-to-play’ often results in artificial barriers to gameplay, and can mean lots of boring ‘grind’ for players.
There has been a healthy amount of skepticism about whether or not The Elder Scrolls Online can do the series justice, as some early reports made it look a little bland. However, we can report that those concerns are largely unfounded, and it does feel like a ‘real’ Elder Scrolls game.
