A tornado movie in 2024? One would think that the premise of Twisters is more worthy of a movie from the early 21st century, when VFX began to generate more and more natural disaster films that left the audience in awe in front of the screen. However, everything seems to indicate that Twisters will be one of the big surprises of the year.

Directed by Lee Isaac Chung and starring Glen Powell, Anthony Ramos, and Daisy Edgar-Jones, Twisters is a remake of the 1996 film Twister and tells the story of Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser, who returns to the plains to test a new tracking system when she encounters Tyler Owens, a reckless influencer, as they both face unprecedented weather phenomena in Oklahoma.

What does the critics say about Twisters?

But why is it worth going to see Twisters on its premiere on July 19th? The critics seem to have it clear:

“The film features exceptional visual effects work… However, what really sets Twisters apart from any conventional disaster movie is how well-developed the main characters and their situations are. It’s a pleasant surprise” – Jim Schembri, jimschembri.com

“The truly attractive thing about this movie is simply being able to hang out with a group of friendly nerds who have fun looking at clouds and weather maps. Oh, and seeing a large part of the American middle class destroyed and thrown into the sky” – Anthony Morris, It’s Better in the Dark

“Twisters miraculously stands out in the landscape of modern box office hits, just like Twister did in 1996. It is the rare sequel of a well-understood legacy” – William Bibbiani, The Wrap

“Like its predecessor, this exciting and surprising burst of cinema fun combines a strange variety of genres in a conventionally satisfying journey” – David Ehrlich, Indie Wire
