One of the most spectacular announcements revealed during the Super Bowl was that of The Flash movie. Warner’s film will be in charge of putting the “closure” to the old DC Universe before opening the closure to the DC Studios that James Gunn is preparing with more than ten films. And for it prepares an event as big as Spider-Man: No Way Home.

If in the Marvel Studios movie we were able to meet again with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, in this one we will do the same with several DC characters, both from the studio’s past and, probably, from James Gunn and Peter Safran’s future plans.

Michael Keaton’s Batman returns… and some more

In the film, The Flash alters space-time by traveling into the past and trying to save his mother from death (played by Spain’s Maribel Verdú). This temporal alteration ends up taking him to a universe in which General Zod, the villain of Man of Steel, has conquered Earth.

To save her, he must convince a former Batman to help him: Michael Keaton’s Batman. To do so, he infiltrates his lair and tries to convince him to lend him a hand. Undoubtedly, this return has brought a lot of glue, because it also does it with all the law: with his classic costume and everything that characterized him in Tim Burton’s films, including the music of Danny Elfman.

But he won’t be the only Batman to come out. As we see in the trailers, Ben Affleck‘s Batman will also be important. Perhaps he will be in the first part of the film, as he is friends with Ezra Miller’s Flash. But it is clear that he will also have weight in the plot.

Batman se aleja rápidamente de un coche de policía que cae en su motocicleta en The Flash.

Still, these two may not be the only ones. In a very specific shot in the trailer, we can see the motorcycle used by Christian Bale’s Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy. It is a very short shot in which it is barely visible, but it could be the return of Christian Bale as Batman.

Considering that in Spider-Man: No Way Home they made us wait until the premiere to see the three Spider-Man together, it would not be surprising that we also have a reunion of bats. Of course, the one that doesn’t look like he’s going to appear is Robert Pattinson, especially considering that his movies will be separate from the rest of the DC Universe.

With Supergirl we don’t need no Superman

Another big surprise in the trailer for The Flash is the addition of Supergirl to the cast. Kara-EL is Superman’s cousin. According to the original story, she was sent to Earth to reunite with her relative, but ends up staying when she discovers how people live on our planet.

In The Flash, as we have been able to see, she will be in charge of facing Zod along with the two Flash that appear and Batman. Played by Sasha Calle, she has surprised fans by how well she seems to fit the role of the character. Undoubtedly, she will give a lot to talk about when the movie comes out.

Who will not be there is Superman himself. Henry Cavill was about to return to the DC Universe, but finally Gunn and Safran told him that they had no plans for him in the future and left him aside. What we will have is a Superman reboot with another actor, and a Supergirl movie. Knowing Gunn and Safran, maybe the Supergirl film will be with another actress, but if Sasha Calle’s film catches on, we wouldn’t be surprised if they finally decided to go with her.

What happened to Ezra Miller?

Beyond the purely cinematic, there is a more perilous issue that is what has caused the release of The Flash movie to be delayed: its own protagonist.

Ezra Miller is an acclaimed actor who has managed, in recent years, to make a big name for himself in Hollywood with films like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and We Need to Talk About Kevin. However, since 2020 he has not stopped starring in controversies that seemed to end his career: an attempt to suffocate a woman, several physical altercations in Hawaii, the theft of several bottles of alcohol from a residence and a complaint for sexual abuse (he began a relationship with a 12-year-old girl when he was 23).

All this would have been enough to cancel any actor, but with the release of The Flash in jeopardy, Warner finally convinced him to apologize and, with some good lawyers, he has finally come out ahead. That said, it doesn’t look like he has much of a future beyond this film either as The Flash or as a top Hollywood performer.
