Windows 11 continues to prepare for its major update in the second half of the year. Among the latest news, in fact, a new tool has been revealed that will allow users to discover if their computer system is compatible with the future version of Windows 11, as it will bring significant changes and it is possible that certain computers that currently have Windows 11 may not be able to support the upcoming update for their current operating system.
It is already known that Windows 11, unlike Windows 10, has not been so friendly with older hardware, and it is much more demanding in terms of technical requirements to be used normally. In fact, with the 24H2 update, this phenomenon will occur again, but Microsoft wants users to be properly warned that the update may be incompatible before it is carried out, in order to avoid the problems that come with reverting to the previous version once the next one is installed.
A tool to discover compatibility
While the company is immersed in the deep development of the large-scale patch that will arrive on Windows 11, testers have been able to see that, among other elements, Microsoft has developed in the update’s setup a tool that allows to verify that a computer meets the necessary requirements to support Windows 11 version 24H2 normally.
In this way, many users will save themselves stability or execution problems if their device is not fully compatible. Among other things, it will seek to detect support for critical functions for the normal operation of the patch, as well as many other details, such as processor compatibility or Safe Mode enablement.
The Planned Obsolescence of Windows
As we have mentioned in previous occasions at Softonic, one of the reasons for the lack of immersion of Windows 11 in the computer park is that many of them do not have the capacity to support this system. That implies that, even if they want to move forward, many people are forced to change their PC if they do not want to fall into the abyss of Windows 10 abandonment, which will affect more than 240 million computer devices worldwide.
It is evident that for a company it may be unprofitable to keep an Operating System with residual traffic updated. However, the figures make it clear that currently, Windows 10 still has more than double the number of users than Windows 11, leaving the latter in an atypical second place, despite having been on the market for almost three years. Therefore, it is problematic that there are so many users at risk of the software abandonment that Windows 10 will suffer at the end of 2025.
