Virtual reality enthusiasts are in luck. Although the Meta Quest 3 won’t be available until September, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has promised to enhance the already impressive Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro.
Previously known as Oculus Quest 2, these VR headsets are currently the best-selling in the market, so the news was warmly welcomed by the public. As promised during Meta Connect, the company has released the v55 update.
Among some of the new features, the Quest 2 will have a 19% improvement in GPU speed compared to the previous version. The Quest Pro, on the other hand, will see a more modest 11% increase. Both headsets will benefit from a 26% improvement in CPU performance, according to Meta’s data.
What do these changes mean exactly? In general, we will experience games and applications running much smoother. Indirectly, this will result in a more responsive system that enhances our interactions.
We will also benefit from Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR). This technique renders graphics at higher resolutions and then downscales them to fit our display (in this case, the VR headset). Thanks to DSR, we can enjoy better graphics without sacrificing performance.

But the innovations don’t stop there: support for multitouch gestures within the Meta Quest web browser, a new Facebook Messenger app, new locations within Meta Horizon Worlds… Social focus is fundamental for Meta, which will now also allow us to enjoy short videos and Reels (within Facebook and Instagram).
Mixed reality also wants to join the party, and we will see it in the v55 update. Now, we can activate this feature and have it display recognized elements when creating our environment. Does this sound familiar to us?
