Quentin Tarantino has already directed nine films, and that means that the next one will be the last of his entire career. A few years ago, the director announced that he would retire after ten films – he himself doesn’t really know why – so he must choose his next project very carefully… as it will be the last one he makes.
This decision, which could be reversed at any time by saying “hey, it was a joke” and that’s it, is taking its toll on poor Tarantino. The filmmaker had already chosen what was going to be his next movie, The Movie Critic, but finally he has backed out and canceled it. Although he has not exactly justified why, the film was delayed due to strikes and then made several changes to the script… until, it seems, he would end up putting it on hold because he was not 100% convinced of its story.

The curse of the 10 movies
Thanks to the strikes, in fact, Tarantino has been able to make this decision. The film was going to be shot in August 2023 to take advantage of tax incentives from the city of Los Angeles. However, this break didn’t sit well with the project, and now that he was picking it up again, there were several things that didn’t fit, so he has decided to take a step back.
Initially, The Movie Critic was going to feature Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, the latter reprising his role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which earned him an Oscar. But unfortunately, we have to say goodbye to the project and wait for Tarantino to surprise us in the future with another new movie.

The decision to make only 10 movies is affecting Tarantino more than he would like to admit. Because of this, he couldn’t make his beloved Star Trek movie or other “minor” projects that he would also enjoy. On the other hand, he is fully focused on movies that transcend… whatever that means.
