The first titles of the Suikoden saga, known for their rich narrative and complexity in characters, have returned in a remastered pack, offering graphical improvements and the much-anticipated Spanish translation. This collection, which includes Suikoden I and II, provides a new opportunity for players to revisit these gems of the JRPG genre, which went unnoticed during their original release in the 1990s, especially Suikoden II, which was released alongside Final Fantasy VII.
Intriguing, massive, and very well-polished games
Both games feature an intriguing plot set in a war-torn world, filled with plot twists and betrayals. Players can recruit a total of 108 characters throughout the story, providing an immersive experience. The enhancements in the remastering include a more polished atmosphere, particle effects, and a combat system that allows for faster battles, although inconsistencies in the quality of the environments have generated mixed reviews among fans.
Although the localization into Spanish is a step forward, some terms and grammatical structures have raised concerns, with unnatural registers in the dialogue. However, the translation work is essential for those who wish to enjoy the story in their native language. The new difficulty options and the ability to speed up battles are welcome additions, although players have pointed out the lack of more autosaves and objective reminders as a notable omission.
The remastering, which includes audio improvements and a character gallery, has been well received, highlighting that, despite certain flaws, the value of the collection remains high. The overall experience is satisfying and accessible for both new players and veterans alike, reaffirming Suikoden’s status as a cult series in the realm of video games. Suikoden I & II HD Collection is now available at a reduced price, giving everyone the opportunity to rediscover these timeless classics.
