Neil Druckmann, director and co-president of Naughty Dog, has confirmed that there are no plans for a sequel to The Last of Us Part II, and that fans should not expect more installments in the saga. During a recent interview with Variety, Druckmann stated that players should not “bet on more The Last of Us,” which has left many followers disappointed at the possibility of a third game in this acclaimed franchise.
Meanwhile, at Sony, they have other plans
However, in a gesture that seems to seek to console Sad Gamers, PlayStation has announced the release of a limited edition DualSense controller inspired by The Last of Us. This new model features a black and white design that showcases various game icons, including the logos of the Fireflies and the WLF. Pre-orders for the controller will begin on March 14 and it will be available in stores starting April 10, although it is unclear how long it will be available for purchase.
Following Druckmann’s news, many fans have expressed their frustration on social media, commenting and joking about the industry’s trend of remastering existing products instead of offering new releases. This reaction highlights the perception that Naughty Dog has focused more on remakes and remasterings, which has generated a certain apathy among players who long for fresh content.
On the other hand, actor Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel in the HBO series based on the game, has shared that there was a “beautiful” scene that was cut from the first season but will appear in the second. This suggests that the narrative of The Last of Us remains a point of interest for both the creators and the actors involved.
