Toyota Launches First Fast-Charging Station with EVgo in California

Toyota has officially launched its first fast-charging station in collaboration with EVgo, marking a major step toward enhancing electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the U.S.

The inaugural stations, equipped with 350kW chargers capable of servicing up to eight vehicles simultaneously, were unveiled in Baldwin Park and Sacramento, California.

This move is part of Toyota’s ‘Empact’ initiative, designed to expand charging access, particularly in underserved communities.

James George, Toyota North America’s General Manager of EV charging solutions, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Together with EVgo, we are supporting broader access to charging infrastructure for all battery EV drivers, including those driving Toyota and Lexus BEVs”.

The newly opened stations are situated in “amenity-rich” areas, conveniently located near grocery stores, restaurants, and shopping malls, enhancing their accessibility for local residents and visitors.

In conjunction with the launch of the charging stations, Toyota and EVgo are offering one year of free public charging to individuals who purchase or lease the new 2025 bZ4X. Priced at a base of $37,070 — $6,000 less than its 2024 predecessor — the bZ4X introduces several new features, including a stealthy ‘Nightshade’ edition.

The electric SUV’s dimensions and spacious interior, combined with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen and support for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, put it on par with competitors in the electric vehicle market.

As more drivers make the switch to electric vehicles, the need for readily available charging options becomes paramount. EVgo’s Scott Levitan remarked, “Charging availability is essential as more drivers choose electric”.

This partnership is viewed as a significant win for environmental sustainability and the future of clean transportation in the Sacramento area, reinforcing the commitment of both companies toward a greener world.
