The Toyota bZ4X electric crossover has officially received its first significant update, which includes noteworthy additions like battery preconditioning, enhanced motor performance, and a larger touchscreen display.
This updated model will launch in Europe this fall, building anticipation among electric vehicle (EV) enthusiasts and potential buyers.
During a recent press conference in Brussels, Toyota unveiled the updated bZ4X alongside two new electric crossovers—the C-HR+ and Urban Cruiser.
The bZ4X will now offer a new 57.7-kWh battery
Together, these models represent a substantial portion of Toyota’s commitment to releasing six new EVs in Europe by the end of 2026. Among the additional three vehicles hinted at in a promotional slide, there’s speculation about a Hilux EV pickup and a luxurious Land Cruiser EV.
As part of its strategic move towards carbon neutrality in Europe by 2035, Toyota is adopting a multi-energy approach, prioritizing hybrid technologies alongside battery and hydrogen fuel-cell solutions.
The bZ4X will now offer a new 57.7-kWh battery in addition to an upgraded 73.1-kWh pack, which lifts the power from 201 hp to 221 hp with redesigned silicon carbide semiconductors. Dual-motor versions now boast a towing capacity of up to 3,300 pounds, doubling previous limits.
Enhanced features also extend to charging, with a new 22-kW onboard charger drastically reducing charging time from the previous nine hours. The addition of battery pre-conditioning optimizes charging power, making it easier for owners to maintain their vehicles.
Inside the vehicle, a 14.0-inch touchscreen now comes standard, reminiscent of those used in other high-grade Toyota and Lexus models. This tech upgrade enhances navigation and charging station recommendations and has already been extended to existing bZ4X models through over-the-air updates.
As Toyota prepares to roll out these enhancements, it sets the stage for a more competitive offering in the ever-evolving electric vehicle market.
