2025 will be a year of blockbusters and great movies
“2025 will be a strong year for the global box office, driven by the solid schedules of studios and independent productions,” stated Dimitrios Mitsinikos, CEO of Gower Street Analytics.
The projected figures are still below pre-pandemic levels, 14% below the 2017-2019 average. However, when calculated using current exchange rates, the forecasts for 2025 exceed the 2023 results by 1%.
Among the main franchises that will drive the 2025 calendar are the new installments of Avatar, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mission: Impossible, Jurassic World, John Wick, and Conjuring. Superman, by James Gunn, will inaugurate the new DC universe, while Disney’s Zootopia sequel aims to repeat the multimillion-dollar success of its predecessor.
Rob Mitchell, director of theatrical information at Gower Street, highlighted the diversity of the lineup and noted the contributions of acclaimed filmmakers Bong Joon-ho, Osgood Perkins, Ryan Coogler, and Joseph Kosinski.
Looking ahead, Thomas Beranek, chief analyst at Gower Street, points to 2026 as a potentially decisive year, citing a schedule filled with new releases of The Avengers, Spiderman, Super Mario Bros, Star Wars, Toy Story, Shrek, and Christopher Nolan’s next project.
