Naughty Dog, the studio behind iconic titles like The Last of Us, has revealed new details about its upcoming game titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. During a nearly hour-long conversation at Sony’s Creator to Creator event, co-president Neil Druckmann, accompanied by director Alex Garland, discussed the inspirations and creative process behind this ambitious project, set in an alternate future 2000 years ahead from the 1980s.
Surely it won’t go unnoticed
The game will explore complex themes of faith and religion, focusing on a new religion that evolves over the years after a cataclysmic event that interrupts all communication. According to Druckmann, the game will take place on a planet where the playable character, Jordan A Mun, finds himself completely alone after crashing while pursuing his target. This environment will serve to highlight the feeling of confusion and loneliness, distancing itself from the team dynamics presented in previous titles.
Druckmann also made a humorous statement about the possibility of receiving less controversy with this new title compared to The Last of Us: Part II, which generated significant divisions among players. Hwe made certain creative decisions that led us to receive hate, he commented, suggesting that the focus on faith and religion could be less controversial, although we have serious doubts about this.
As the narrative unfolds, the story behind the game’s religion will develop, showing how it has been altered and evolved over centuries. Although an official release date has not been announced, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is expected to be available for PlayStation 5, which could mark a new chapter in Naughty Dog’s video game narrative.
