Apple is preparing to unveil the third generation of its most rugged smartwatch, and this year’s Apple Watch Ultra 3 looks set to be more than just a minor refresh. While the Ultra 2 was little more than a new color, this new model is expected to offer substantial upgrades that target performance, health tracking, and connectivity. Here are the top five reasons to consider the leap.
A new, faster chip
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 is rumored to include the next-gen S11 chip, which should improve performance and energy efficiency. This means faster app launches, smoother animations, and better battery optimization for daily use and workouts.
Blood pressure monitoring
Health tracking may see a serious upgrade with the addition of a blood pressure and hypertension monitoring system. This tool is expected to alert users to potential issues without needing a separate medical device, further solidifying the watch’s role as a proactive health companion.
5G and satellite connectivity
Apple is reportedly switching to MediaTek modems to enable Reduced Capability 5G, boosting cellular reliability when your iPhone isn’t nearby. On top of that, satellite messaging could allow communication in remote areas, particularly useful for hikers or adventurers.
Brighter, more advanced display
The new model will likely borrow the LTPO3 OLED panel from the Series 10, providing a display that’s not only more energy efficient but also 40% brighter at angles, improving visibility in sunlight.
Still ultra-durable and feature-rich
Although no redesign is expected, the signature rugged build, dive-rated water resistance, and robust GPS capabilities remain. The Ultra 3 keeps what works while adding meaningful innovation.
