Apple would have manufactured 17 million iPhones 16 just for the pre-order period: Will it be the best-selling iPhone?

As you know, this afternoon Apple will present to the world the iPhone 16, a new generation of iPhone that has generated a lot of expectations for several reasons, the main one being its compatibility with artificial intelligence and the future of the brand.

Just a few hours before the official announcement of the iPhone 16 lineup, but right before the “It’s Glowtime” big event begins, an analyst offers some revised shipment figures for Apple’s upcoming flagship series.

Several hardware updates and features will boost demand, so the company would likely have prepared up to 17 million units to satisfy the wave of pre-orders.

However, as we now explain, the upcoming quarters do not seem to be a positive outlook for Apple’s flagship series.

iPhone 16 will not sell as much as the current iPhone 15

In his Medium blog post, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that the estimated shipments of the iPhone 16 have increased to 88-89 million units, a slightly lower figure than the 91 million units of the iPhone 15.

This figure differs from the one reported by Nikkei Asia, which claimed that Apple has instructed its supply chain to mass produce a 10% higher volume of iPhone 16 units. The demand will be driven by the standard version and the “Pro” models.

It is said that the base model will account for 26 percent of total shipments, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will account for an impressive 30 percent and 38 percent of the total volume. The iPhone 16 Plus will probably be the least demanded, as, according to Kuo, it will represent a tiny 6 percent.

The pre-order period will be a “decisive” moment for Apple, as it is estimated that the Californian giant has prepared between 15 and 17 million units of the iPhone 16 to meet the surge in demand.

According to Kuo’s predictions, the iPhone 16 range will not mark the beginning of a supercycle, something that Mark Gurman from Bloomberg also pointed out, but he is hopeful that the iPhone 17 range will become a massive success among customers next year.
