The highly anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3 has been announced by Larian Studios, bringing players new and exciting features. One of the most significant additions is the introduction of cross-play between all platforms: consoles, PC, and Mac. This will allow players on different devices to connect and play together, expanding the role-playing game’s community.

Among the innovations, 12 new subclasses stand out, along with a photo mode that will give players the opportunity to capture memorable moments within the game. Additionally, improvements will be implemented in the mods, which have seen more than 100 million downloads to date, and various bugs that have affected the gaming experience will be fixed.

Finally crossplay, but not without caveats

It is important to mention that Mac players must update their operating system to macOS 14 (version 14.7.1) or later to enjoy these new features. Those with older versions will still be able to access Baldur’s Gate 3 through Patch 6. However, during the stress test period for Patch 8, Mac users will not be able to participate in cross-play.

Players interested in testing the new patch can register to participate in the stress test. The company notes that access will be in waves and that registering does not guarantee participation. Additionally, Xbox players will need to download the Xbox Insider Hub app to be on the list. Larian has also indicated that it is turning its attention to a new project in development, known as Excalibur, while any potential sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3 will be developed by other studios.
