How’s your Hogwarts Legacy game going? Have you discovered the secrets of ancient magic yet? Do you spend hours and hours flying your broomstick? Have you searched everywhere for the Chamber of Secrets? Whether you’re playing on PS5 or PC, we’re sure you’ve done just about everything since the game’s launch on February 10.
But everything, everything? You may have come across more than one video on TikTok where a player jokes about casting an avada kedavra on a character in the game. Did you know that you can actually get both this and the other unforgivable curses in Hogwarts Legacy?
To start with, you will have to advance in the missions of Sebastian Sallow, who wants to learn as much as possible about the dark arts in order to help his sister, affected by a curse. His missions will start with “in the shadows”, and will be unlocked as you advance in the story.
Crucio or cruciatus is the first unforgivable curse you can obtain. It will temporarily stun an enemy and cause damage over time. To get it you must follow the mission “In the shadow of the study” and perform a series of puzzles. There will come a moment when Sebastian will ask you if you want to get the Cruciatus and will present you with three options; if you want to get the spell, you will have to answer the second or the third option, in which you agree to learn the curse.
The second unforgivable curse you will have the option to get is empire. The spell will force an enemy to fight against his own companions, thus having a temporary ally. You will be able to obtain it in the quest “In the shadow of time”, through a relic that you will get after solving several puzzles.
The last and most lethal unforgivable curse, avada kedavra, will allow you to instantly kill an enemy. You can only learn it in the mission “In the shadow of the relic”, near the end of the game. Unlike the other curses, we will not have to perform any puzzle, we just have to talk to Sebastian and ask him to teach it to us.
Obtaining the unforgivable curses is completely optional, as they are not necessary to get the Spellcasting trophy/achievement, which consists of learning (almost) all the spells in the game. Also, their use in the game is not penalized in any way as there is no morale meter, so you can make use of any of them without harming your relationship with any character.
