The remake of Black Hawk Down is presented as a campaign mode integrated into Delta Force, but it is not a faithful adaptation of the original work by NovaLogic or the real events it represents. This campaign is designed to be played cooperatively, which has generated negative reviews on Steam, as it is difficult for players who opt for the solo experience.
Developed by the Chinese studio Team Jade, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down employs the powerful Unreal Engine 5, offering photorealistic graphics and adequate performance. This remake delves into military simulation, moving away from the usual dramatic narrative focus found in titles like Call of Duty, and instead emphasizes teamwork and cooperation.
A brief but interesting campaign
With a duration of approximately three hours, the campaign is divided into seven chapters that recreate events from Operation Gothic Serpent, reflecting key moments from the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. Although the narrative makes some concessions and is not as deep as in other titles, the cinematics are noteworthy and visually striking.
However, one of the biggest drawbacks is that the campaign mode is not designed for solo play. The difficulty increases significantly, as dying in the game means restarting the entire mission, which discourages those looking for a more relaxed experience. The weakness of the solo class system also affects gameplay, as the synergy between players is key to surviving in the challenging environment that the game offers.
Despite its initial criticisms, the game turns out to be an entertaining experience, especially when played with others. Team Jade has released patches to improve the multiplayer experience, acknowledging the issues in matchmaking. While a more traditional campaign is missed, the cooperative approach and the challenge it presents make Delta Force: Black Hawk Down an interesting option for fans of military shooters.
