In case you’ve been lucky enough to have been living under a rock for the last two years, something interesting happened with HBO in 2021; it was removed from Amazon Prime. However, it seems that this particular partnership is now back on, thanks to a deal between Warner Bros. Discovery and Amazon.

HBO Max is now yet again available on Amazon, and there’s enough content there to last until at least the end of 2024. For the moment, this seems to only be valid for the United States. What this means is that if you live in the continental United States and have a current HBO Max subscription through Amazon, you’ll have complete access to the entire HBO Max catalog. In addition, you’ll also have complete access to everything on the new merged HBO Max/ Discovery+ platform when it releases. This is expected to happen during Spring 2023.

HBO Max is back on Amazon Prime

There wasn’t anything dubious about HBO Max leaving the Amazon sphere; the original agreement simply lapsed in September 2021. The reason the agreement lapsed was that Amazon and Warner Bros. could not agree on the details surrounding the proposed extension of their distribution pact. Pretty average business stuff really.

We haven’t yet got the full details on what the new deal will entail. However, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Chief Revenue and Strategy Officer, Bruce Campbell, did offer a statement concerning the new deal. ‘Warner Bros. Discovery is committed to making HBO Max available to as broad an audience as possible while also advancing our data-driven approach to understanding our customers and best serving their viewing interests. Today, we are thrilled to take an important step forward by announcing that HBO Max is returning to Prime Video Channels.’

By this time, the term returning has become returned. The deal is done, you can watch HBO on Amazon Prime right now if you’d like. Go ahead, check it out.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
