A few weeks ago, we learned about Apple’s plans to launch a larger iMac, one that would go beyond the 24-inch model in terms of screen size, power, and specifications. Now, we know that Apple is reportedly starting to test an iMac that would come in at 32 inches, as reported by Mark Gurman in his latest edition of the Power On newsletter. Although these iMacs are in an early stage of development, Gurman estimates that they could be released by late 2024 or early 2025.

An iMac much more Pro than it might seem

While it was already known that Apple was working on a similar size, it is only today that we have the specific information that Apple has decided to make the screen of this new iMac 32 inches. It is worth noting that these are the same inches as the Apple Pro Display XDR.

Indeed, considering the information available, this new iMac could pair better with Apple’s high-end display, the Pro Display XDR, rather than its 27-inch Studio Display variant. From this, we can make some further deductions. The Pro Display XDR has a 6K resolution, and although rumors do not specifically mention it, this resolution could be considered for the screen of the iMac we are discussing.

With the transition to Apple silicon and the ultra-slim design of the 24-inch iMac, currently, it is the only all-in-one model sold by Apple. This model features the M1 chip and was launched in April 2021. Gurman expects an updated model with an M3 chip to be released early next year after the iPhone 15. Later on, it could be accompanied by the 32-inch model we are currently discussing.

Thus, we would be looking at a much more “Pro” computer than it might initially seem. Perhaps it would have a design more similar to the Pro Display itself and significantly surpass the current model in terms of power. Overall, we should soon have more options to choose from for one of the most popular Macs in Apple’s product lineup.
