Sony is looking for every way to get gamers into PlayStation Plus. Its subscription service is one of the main revenue streams, as more than 46 million people pay each month (or yearly) for a PS Plus membership between Essential, Extra and Premium tiers. Well, now it wants to keep that number growing.
To achieve the latter, the Japanese company has come up with an incredible promotion: PlayStation Plus can be obtained for 1, 3 and 5 euros depending on the monthly payment. Yes, it may seem like a scam, but it is not: the price is that, but it has its “trick”, since this amount is only for the first month of subscription.
Thus, the prices would be as follows with this new promotion:
- PlayStation Plus Essential: 1 euro (previously 8.99 euros, 88% discount).
- PlayStation Plus Extra: 3 euros (previously 13.99 euros, 78% discount).
- PlayStation Plus Premium: 5 euros (previously 16.99 euros, 70% discount).
It should also be noted that this promotion is exclusively for new subscribers, i.e. people who have never been subscribed before. If you have been a subscriber before, you can always try your luck, but we can assure you that you will not be eligible for the offer.
With this move, Sony is trying to recreate what Microsoft does with its Xbox Game Pass, which for only 1 euro anyone can subscribe to try out the benefits of the subscription service. Once that month has passed, the amount goes up to its usual market price.
