Netflix has held its conventional TUDUM event, a kind of E3 of the platform itself in which it presents all its news and makes it clear why it is the most followed streaming service today… despite its policies. Dozens of announcements were presented at this event, such as the renewal of The Squid Game for a second season and the first trailer for One Piece.
But there is one series that has stood out among the rest: The 3-Body Problem. David Benioff and DB Weiss, the original showrunners of Game of Thrones, are on board the adaptation of Liu Cixin’s novel that shocked the world in 2008, and it’s certainly an epic sci-fi series and one that can go far. We leave you with the trailer that Netflix has presented:
What is The Three-Body Problem about?
The Three-Body Problem is actually a trilogy that mixes classic science fiction, extraterrestrials and social class struggle. The story begins in the context of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, when a secret military project sends signals into space to contact extraterrestrials. Soon, an alien civilization on the brink of destruction picks up the signal and begins to plan its landing on Earth.
Over the following decades, the alien civilization communicates through an unusual method: a strange virtual video game steeped in history and philosophy. But as the aliens begin to win over the earthly players, different sides form, some ready to welcome these superior beings and help them take over a world so corrupt, and others prepared to fight the invasion. The result is an experience as authentic as it is revealing about our times.
As the team pointed out at the event after watching the trailer, “it is something absolutely different” and it can undoubtedly mean a new great success for the geniuses behind Game of Thrones. We will see if the fiction is more similar to its first seasons or, on the contrary, to the last ones.
Although the series was to premiere during 2023, the final announcement is that it will begin broadcasting in early 2024. That is why we will have to wait a little longer to see what Netflix has in store for us, although everything seems to indicate that it will be a big hit.
