Steam Deck fans are not happy with the Oblivion remaster

The recent arrival of Oblivion Remastered has sparked intense debate among the gaming community, especially among Steam Deck users. Although the remastered version has “Verified” status on this platform, performance issues are evident, especially in open areas, where fps drops can be dramatic, sometimes reducing to as low as 10 fps. This stands in stark contrast to the original version of Oblivion, which runs at 60 fps with adjusted graphics, providing a smoother experience.

The original game can often be better

Despite the fact that the original Oblivion for 10 euros has certain gameplay limitations in its PC version, such as the lack of controller support, a simple mod installation process significantly transforms the experience. After about an hour of adjustments, players can enjoy performance that rivals Skyrim on Steam Deck. For its part, Oblivion Remastered, which costs 50 euros, not only has inconsistent performance but also includes visual issues that tarnish the overall experience.

Users looking for stable performance on the Steam Deck, especially during open-world combat, will notice that the remaster falls short. For example, drops to 21 fps or lower have been recorded during intense encounters. In comparison, the original version allows for a solid framerate, even with ultra graphic settings, and a battery life that can reach up to six hours.

Amidst all these comparisons, it is worth considering that, although Oblivion Remastered has modern graphical improvements, many players may prefer the more optimized experience of the original version, especially if their goal is to play on portable hardware. Additionally, those who enjoy a more classic gameplay style may find the old version a more appealing and economical option.
