Many were confused when they heard the news that The Last of Us II would receive a remaster in 2024. It seems a bit early, especially considering that the game was released in 2020. However, here we are, eagerly awaiting the release of The Last of Us Part II: Remastered, scheduled for January 19th.

Ellie, Joel, Abby and company will receive a small facelift on PS5, where they will look even better thanks to their native 4K graphics in Fidelity Mode, higher frame rates, better textures, and much more. However, their visual improvements are just part of what’s to come in this remaster.

First, let’s get into the details. The Last of Us II: Remastered introduces a guitar mode where you can actually play the guitar. With the touchpad of the DualSense, you can slide the strings as if it were a real instrument. In addition to showing off your musical skills, TLOU also takes advantage of the features of the DualSense to use adaptive triggers in combat. An addition that players will surely enjoy.

However, the remastering adds two game modes that will make you want to return to the world of The Last of Us, even if you had already played (and replayed) Part II before.

First, we have the Lost Levels. In this case, there are three levels that were not included in the final version of The Last of Us II. In fact, they are unfinished. You will notice that their animations are not polished and that some parts do not have dubbing. Each of these levels is preceded by comments from Neil Druckman, who explains why these levels were not included in the game. This is a very interesting addition, especially for the biggest fans of the saga.

Finally, there is the No Return mode. Its premise is simple: you will have to face large hordes of enemies as you progress through different scenarios. There is no story of any kind here: you simply have to survive until you reach the final enemy. Combined with TLOU’s fun combat mechanics, this roguelike mode is likely to keep you hooked.
