This MMORPG wants its economy to be strictly real, and for that, it has hired an economist from the Central Bank of Iceland
That hasn't made the players very happy, who were already not happy with the whole blockchain issue

EVE Frontier, a blockchain-based survival MMO developed by CCP Games, has generated mixed opinions since its launch in September 2024. Despite receiving initial criticism, the development team has begun to articulate a clearer vision for the future of the game, which includes the implementation of legitimate virtual economies.
A key point in this evolution is the recent appointment of Stefán Þórarinsson, former economist of the Central Bank of Iceland, as the new Head of Economics at CCP Games. According to CCP’s CEO, Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, the addition of Þórarinsson represents a step towards creating an open financial system within EVE Frontier, removing currency controls and promoting emerging value systems. This sets the ambitious goal of redefining the construction of virtual nations.
The community is not too excited about the idea
However, the community’s reactions have been cautiously optimistic. Many players express concern about a possible cannibalization of EVE Online, CCP’s flagship game that has been financially successful. In the EVE Frontier subreddit, comments are sparse, suggesting doubts about the direction of the new title and its ability to attract and retain players.
Historically, CCP has relied on economists to manage the economy of EVE Online, which adds a level of credibility to its approach in EVE Frontier. The company has announced a series of economic updates for the new game, in an effort to analyze the fundamental financial aspects within its virtual world. While many are interested in observing how this approach will unfold, the question remains: will it really provide the gaming experience that fans desire?
