Don’t get excited. By naughty, we don’t mean pornographic. Instead, it’s about TikTok content where you’re discussing adult themes, sharing adult jokes, or vaping or drinking in your video, which may influence youngsters. As a way for TikTok to allow you to still share this type of content, you’ll be able to label your videos as ‘adult only’.
In the TikTok newsroom, the latest blog discusses how it’s putting measures in place to strengthen protection against sexually-aggressive content for youngsters. While this feature has already been in place for Live shows, it’s now coming to short videos on the platform. That means that anyone younger than 18 won’t see the adult content appear in the For You section, or anywhere else.
Even with the adult label in place, that doesn’t mean content creators can go wild on TikTok. You’ll still receive bans for nudity or anything else that goes against the platform’s policies. It just lets you create videos with discussions or jokes of a more adult nature without the youngsters learning something they shouldn’t at their age.
Yes, we know they’re still learning it elsewhere, but still. It won’t be from TikTok.

While you can set your video as adult-themed, TikTok developers are working on a way to automatically detect any such content without your intervention. So, even if you don’t place the label, the future system will do so for you. Right now, it’s a long way from being able to pick up if the topic is sensitive, such as talking about suicide or when you lost your virginity. Until then, you’ll need to be responsible and make sure you indicate the adult content appropriately.
Look, at the end of the day, all of us parents want our children to enjoy TikTok without endangering them. There are fun dances for them to try out, and perhaps education on the platform will become a thing. All we want is to keep all the adult stuff away from them. Surely that’s not too much to ask?
