For many people, one of the big news of 2023 was the announcement of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. Being this the Japanese name of the well-known fighting video game franchise Dragon Ball: Budokai Tenkaichi, it is clear what we can expect from this new installment: a lot of different characters, an obscene amount of arenas, and a great fidelity in character designs. Maybe not the deepest combat system, but that’s what Dragon Ball FighterZ is for.
During the past Dragon Ball Games Battle Hours they presented us with the first characters from Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero. With the staggering number of 24 characters, they wanted to start off with a bang, offering us the widest possible glimpse. With a trick. Out of those 24, actually, all of them can be divided into two.
As shown in its spectacular trailer, the 24 characters are summarized in 11 versions of Goku and 13 versions of Vegeta. Something that is accompanied by the aforementioned trailer, which serves to show the different versions of each of them, but also a very dynamic and visually striking confrontation between these deadly enemies, eternal friends, and inseparable companions. Something that alleviates, a little, the fact that they have decided to start by showing 24 characters, when in reality there are only two.
The complete list of confirmed characters so far is as follows:
- Son Goku (Z – Start)
- Son Goku (Z – Intermediate)
- Son Goku (Z – Intermediate), Super Saiyan
- Son Goku (Z – Final)
- Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan
- Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 2
- Son Goku (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 3
- Son Goku (Super)
- Son Goku (Z – Intermediate), Super Saiyan
- Son Goku (Super), Super Saiyan God
- Son Goku (Super), Super Saiyan Blue
- Vegeta (Z – Tracker)
- Great Ape Vegeta
- Vegeta (Z – Start)
- Vegeta (Z – Start), Super Saiyan
- Super Vegeta
- Vegeta (Z – Final)
- Vegeta (Z – Final), Super Saiyan
- Vegeta (Z – Final), Super Saiyan 2
- Majin Vegeta
- Vegeta (Super)
- Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan
- Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan God
- Vegeta (Super), Super Saiyan Blue
However, that’s not the only thing we’ve seen. Along with the trailer, they have shown an image that suggests that the complete roster would have over 120 characters. Less than in the last Budokai Tenkaichi, but still an immense roster. We will be able to enjoy it when it is released soon on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.
