He is the most media-savvy figure on the internet worldwide, alongside Ibai (the Spanish streamer who holds all the Twitch audience records), which is why everything he does grabs the attention of the entire world. And his new competition series, Beast Games, has caught the attention of everyone. Including the judges.
MrBeast is the master of ceremonies of a “Squid Game” style battle in which the winner takes 5 million dollars in his upcoming show called Beast Games and which he has made together with Amazon’s Prime Video.
As we mentioned, Beast Games will premiere on December 19, exclusively on Prime Video. And last night MrBeast, the popular YouTuber whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, released a teaser trailer for the show on Twitter and YouTube.
A Squid Game Splashed with Controversy
“I have spent over a year creating this 10-episode competition series, breaking 40 world records, building the craziest sets in entertainment history, with 1,000 players and a grand prize of 5 million dollars,” wrote MrBeast on Twitter. “I have poured everything I have into this series, see you on December 19th on @PrimeVideo! 🙂”.
The teaser trailer shows participants dressed in blue tracksuits – each with their contestant number, reminiscent of the South Korean Netflix hit “Squid Game.”
In a nod to the pink guards from the Netflix series, in Beast Games the participants wear black suits that cover their faces. The teaser indicates that the challenges will include monster trucks, a pirate ship, and jumps from a helicopter.
“The clock starts now!”, shouts MrBeast at the beginning of the teaser, as the camera shows the contestants standing on individual neon-lit platforms in an arena.
MrBeast has already tried to copy “Squid Game” in the past: his most viewed video on YouTube to date is his 2021 recreation of the Netflix show, which replicated the elimination challenges from the series and awarded the winner with $456,000. That video has 130 million views.
For those who don’t know, in September a lawsuit was filed against MrBeast, his production company, and Amazon on behalf of five anonymous contestants who participated in the first round of filming for the Prime Video show.
The lawsuit alleges that the participants were deprived of medical care, food, sleep and “basic hygiene needs”; that they were not paid minimum wage or overtime; and that they were subjected to sexual harassment and “dangerous circumstances and conditions.” This matter is now in the hands of the justice system.
