The Mandalorian is Disney Plus’ most iconic series. When the streaming platform launched in 2019, it did so alongside this Jon Favreau-directed series, which has not stopped winning fans among both the biggest Star Wars fans and casuals or those new to the franchise.
The reasons are many, from a sublime performance by Pedro Pascal to a structure based on a very consistent role-playing game. The Mandalorian is even a thread through the other Star Wars fictions (from Ahsoka to The Book of Boba Fett). And we still have a lot more to see. Season 3 of the series premieres this year, so we’ll summarize everything we know so far.

The Mandalorian S3 Release Date
The third season of The Mandalorian will premiere very soon. Next Wednesday, March 1, it will land on Disney Plus. However, it will not have a simultaneous premiere of the whole season as it happens with Netflix fictions. As with The Last of Us, each week we will have a new episode of the series.

What happened between Seasons 2 and 3 of The Mandalorian?
The second season of The Mandalorian ended in style. After following Mando and Grogu (formerly Baby Yoda) in their adventures throughout space for many episodes, the series ended when Grogu ended up going with none other than Luke Skywalker to be instructed by him.
The ending of this season was incredible. However, the series will not pick up where it left off. In between these two seasons there has been another series that has directly affected the events that will occur in Season 3 of The Mandalorian: The Book of Boba Fett.
The character we already saw in the original Star Wars trilogy has a substantial weight in the plot of the series. His last two chapters are, as with Marvel events, indispensable to follow in the footsteps of Mando and Grogu. They are more than necessary to see them to follow everything up to date. So you know, if you haven’t seen them yet, you have time before March 1.

What will Season 3 of The Mandalorian be about?
As we could already see in the official trailer of the season, The Mandalorian T3 will continue the story of Din Djarin (who we know as Mando) after what happened in The Book of Boba Fett. The Mandalorian is back alongside Grogu after confronting Luke Skywalker, and the two travel aboard a ship known to fans as the Naboo fighter from the run of The Phantom Menace.
Mando will travel to his original planet, Mandalore, which has been ravaged by the Empire during the war. After discovering that the different clans of his planet were dispersed throughout the galaxy, Mando must atone for his offenses against his faith and obtain forgiveness from his culture. To do so, he will have to pass a test in the underground tunnels of his planet, for which he will have the help of the (no longer so small and weak) Grogu.
This challenge will be the backbone of the first episodes of Season 3 of The Mandalorian, but it will not be the only one. After getting the Darksaber, Mando must claim the throne and leadership of his planet Mandalore. It is a position he does not initially want, but which is also sought by Bo-Katan Kryze, who seeks to unite all the scattered clans of the planet, so they will surely end up facing each other for it at some point.
Also, there is one loose end left to resolve, which will surely come in this season: how did Grogu escape from Order 66 and Darth Vader’s Jedi Purge? will we see it in the next chapters? will we know who rescued him? We will soon find out.

How many episodes will The Mandalorian T3 have and who will direct them?
Once again, the Star Wars series will have 8 episodes, which have been written by showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Favreau has signed all of them and Filoni has only been directly involved in the fourth and seventh. In addition, Noah Kloor (The Book of Boba Fett) is co-signing the script of the third chapter with Favreau, so it may have something to do with his series.
As for the directors, although we do not yet know them specifically by chapters, we know that they will be the following:
- Rick Famuyiwa (repeats as director).
- Bryce Dallas Howard (repeats as director).
- Carl Weathers (moves from series actor to director).
- Rachel Morrison (new addition).
- Lee Isaac Chung (new addition).
- Peter Ramsey (new addition).
