Shakira and Bizarrap visited “The Tonight Show” for the first time together last Friday, March 10, to present live their hit “BZRP Music Session 53”. During the interview, the singer and the producer revealed many curiosities and took the opportunity to sing live the viral hit of the moment.

This has been one of the most awaited visits of Jimmy Fallon’s show, although for Shakira it was not her first time: she was already there in 2014 to promote her album Shakira (and where she also released a song with Rihanna, Can’t Remember To Forget You). Then we could see her again last year, amid rumors of crisis between her and Piqué, her ex-partner.

As Jimmy Fallon indicated during the interview, both artists had “swept the board” with their collaboration: so far, Sesión 53 has already broken 4 Guinness World Records and has become the most viewed Latin song on YouTube in 24 hours. But that’s not all, as it also holds the record of being the most played song on Spotify in 24 hours and in a week.

A “very hard year” after the separation: this is how Shakira has experienced it from the inside

In the interview, both Shakira and Bizarrap revealed very interesting facts about their collaboration and the Colombian took the opportunity to open up live: “I’ve had a very hard year after my separation […] writing this song has been very important for me, it’s a healthy way to channel my emotions”.

The diva said during the meeting that it was her own son, Milán (10 years old) who insisted that she should collaborate with Bizarrap. It was not something far-fetched, the Argentinean was already coming from other viral hits such as his song with Nathy Peluso or Snow Tha Product. Shakira took the opportunity to reveal that the first rapprochement between the two took place when Bizarrap’s collaboration with Quevedo was being played all over the place. For his part, Bizarrap sent a message to the Colombian via Instagram that it took her two months to respond. But as they say, better late than never.

Both artists took the opportunity to talk a little about the Session and her musical influences, such as the synth sound of the 80’s and the group Depeche Mode, of which she declares herself an absolute fan.

Shakira also talked about the overwhelming reaction that the song generated on its release: “I am amazed with the reaction of the people […] since we released it I don’t feel like I have fans out there, but a sisterhood of women who have gone through the same, who have felt the same as me and who have also had to put up with a lot of shit. I wrote this song for me but a lot of women have found a voice in it that represents them.” Here below we leave you with the performance.
