The Squid Game has become one of Netflix’s biggest gems in recent years. The South Korean series was an unexpected hit that snuck into the most watched of 2021, causing everyone to dress up as the hit on Halloween and for fans to even start making their own games.

Although it may have caught the platform by surprise, Netflix has decided to stretch its success to the maximum, as they are doing with La Casa de Papel. Thus, from the VOD service they have launched, in the framework of the TUDUM event, two announcements of what will be the new of The Squid Game.

The second season of El Juego del Calamar arrives

The most important announcement made by Netflix is what everyone was waiting for: the trailer for the second season of the series. After finishing the first games, no one was quite sure where this new season would go. They could use the old characters or invent some new games with a whole new cast.

And Netflix has decided to go all out. As we can see in the trailer, some of the most important characters from the first season are back, and along with them four new actors who will try to add their charisma to an already amazing cast: Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon and Yang Dong-Guen. There is no confirmed release date yet, but it is expected for 2024.

The Challenge: the Squid Game comes to real life

Beyond the second season of The Squid Game, in TUDUM Netflix has presented The Squid Game: The Challenge, a controversial reality show in which contestants face the well-known tests of the series… in real life. We imagine there will be no deaths as in the series, although fun is assured.

Netflix has also explained what El Desafío will be like and, of course, it looks very good. We’ll see if it manages to attract the series’ own audience, although considering its success, it doesn’t seem that it will be very difficult.
