Chevrolet has decided to relaunch the Spark as an affordable electric SUV, called the Spark EUV, with a range of up to 249 miles (approximately 400 km).
This new model is presented as a ‘game changer’ for export markets, particularly in the Middle East, South America, and Africa.
The brand aims to accelerate its transition to electric vehicles, using technology from the SAIC-GM-Wuling collaboration, specifically the Baojun Yep Plus model.
The Chevrolet Spark EUV is expected to cost less than 20,000 euros
The vehicle is powered by a 75 kW (101 hp) electric motor and features a 42 kWh battery that allows for reasonable performance, with a range of around 400 km under optimal conditions.
The Spark EUV will be available in several nations in the Middle East, such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Egypt, indicating a strategy aimed at conquering emerging markets.
The interior of the Chevrolet Spark EUV is designed to be modern and functional, integrating a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. Drivers will be able to enjoy customization options that include vibrant colors like Sea Blue and Track Yellow, as well as a variety of accessories that will allow them to tailor the vehicle to personal tastes.
At the cost level, GM has managed to keep a low price for the Spark EUV by using relatively simple electric vehicle technology and repurposing R&D budgets. It is speculated that its price could be below 20,000 dollars in emerging markets, although Chevrolet has not yet disclosed official information regarding this.
However, despite expectations, the Spark EUV is not anticipated to reach the U.S. market, which could be seen as a significant loss for consumers interested in a practical and affordable EV.
