Paramount Pictures has unleashed its entire arsenal of blockbusters taking advantage of its space at CinemaCon. The studio has announced, among other releases, the upcoming crossover between Transformers and G.I. Joe, a musical film co-created by the creators of South Park and Kendrick Lamar, and a new Scary Movie.
All of this, however, pales in comparison to an even more exciting premiere: the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. After the success of the animated film Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos, Paramount has given the green light to a project that seemed impossible; a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie… for adults.
The darkest history of the Ninja Turtles
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has given the green light to the project of a live-action movie of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. This is one of the most acclaimed comics in the franchise, which despite being fairly new, was a great success, and it also has a very dark, violent, and blood-filled story.
The Last Ronin presents a dystopian future in which the Foot Clan has won and eliminated all the turtles except one —one that in the comic is a surprise so we won’t reveal it here even though all the media are doing it—. In addition, Master Splinter has also died, so the turtle decides to forge his own path of revenge with all the pain that awaits.
The script for the movie is written by Tyler Burton Smith, who was co-writer of Boy Kills World, a film starring Bill Skarsgard full of action and with a very similar tone to this The Last Ronin. There is still no confirmed director or actors, but it is expected that progress will be made in the development during this year.
