In the long run, having an outdated or old PC can cause you more problems than you think. Now, we know that Windows 10 users with old processors are very likely to experience the dreaded ‘blue screen of death.’ The culprit? The new NVIDIA graphics drivers.
A month ago, NVIDIA published a post on its official website announcing that with the release of Version 555, support for their drivers on old computers without the POPCNT instruction set would be discontinued.
In technical terms, POPCNT is part of specific processor extensions, such as those found in some versions of Intel and AMD processors. It is added as an enhancement to accelerate specific operations involving bit counting, such as graphics processing.
In short, those who use Windows with old processors and NVIDIA graphics cards that still receive support (such as the GTX 750 Ti and above), should avoid downloading the 555 NVIDIA driver and later versions.
