The modding group United West Team has released a demo of their mod titled Revelation Blues, which aims to narrate the story of the canceled Fallout 3 project, known as Van Buren, set in Fallout: New Vegas. This new content explores how the ideas from Van Buren influenced the narrative of New Vegas, a connection that has fascinated RPG fans for over a decade.
The demo focuses on Burham Springs, a fictional town that represents a deserted locality built over a coal mine on fire, inspired by the real fire in Centralia. This disaster was caused by NCR soldiers who, in their attempt to catch the powder gangers, triggered a series of catastrophic events that led to the mutation of the inhabitants, whom the residents of New Canaan called gehennas and molechs.
Everything that could have been Fallout 3
The recreation of this scenario is not just a tribute to what could have been Fallout 3, but it also highlights the significant legacy of Black Isle Studios, creators of Fallout 1. This studio proposed Van Buren before its cancellation, leaving behind a rich heritage that, although it never materialized as a complete game, has inspired the narrative of New Vegas, including elements like the NCR and the powder gangers.
In addition, other developers, such as Adam Lacko, are working on projects related to Van Buren. His Project Van Buren aims to reconstruct the original game using development documentation from Black Isle. Although Lacko has been busy recently as the lead developer on a new CRPG inspired by Fallout, fans are still hoping for progress on his ambitious project.
The community’s passion for reviving stories of canceled titles remains alive, and Revelation Blues is an expression of that interest, offering a new window into a world that could very well have been part of the Fallout saga.
