It is the closest thing we will have to an official version of GTA for Nintendo Switch.

Once again, the modding community has achieved the impossible. This is demonstrated by their latest achievement: running GTA 5 on a Nintendo Switch. Their great success knows no bounds, as evidenced by the more than 190 million copies sold. And even though more than 10 years have passed since its release, the Rockstar game remains just as relevant.
In fact, GTA 5 can boast of having been present in three generations of consoles. However, its enormous success has not been enough to encourage Rockstar to bring GTA 5 to Nintendo Switch. Although Nintendo’s handheld console lacks a familiar image, that has not prevented adult-oriented games from appearing on Switch. In fact, in 2021, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was released for the console.
Despite the rumors indicating the release of GTA 5 on Switch, it turned out to be a mirage: it was never Rockstar’s plan to release the game on the console. This situation has led modders to take matters into their own hands to unofficially port GTA 5 to Switch.
It has been Superstar Sound Studios, a renowned group of modders, who have embarked on this adventure. A few days earlier, the team shared a video through X where it can be seen that it is already possible to play it on Switch.
The team has explained that the game runs from the portable mode of Nintendo Switch, without overclocking. They also clarify that many of the stutters seen in the published video are caused by the recording itself. Although the game doesn’t look its best (there is a lot of lag and textures that could be improved), the great work behind this “unofficial” version of Switch is already worthy of admiration.
