With each update, Apple offers us features that optimize the experience and improve some of the little challenges we may encounter in our daily digital life. One of those small details, which arrived with iOS 17, is the ability to recover deleted passwords from the iCloud keychain. In previous versions, if we deleted a password from the keychain, it was gone forever. Now, how can we recover it?
How to recover any password for 30 days
Before iOS 17, every time we decided to delete a password from our iCloud keychain, it disappeared permanently. Now, with the recent update, Apple has introduced the same system we already know from the Photos app, Notes, Files and so on: all deleted items are saved in Recently Deleted for 30 days before deleting them permanently. So, recovering it is as easy as following these steps:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Go to Passwords.
- We played in Deleted recently.
- Select the password you want to recover.
- Click on Recover at the bottom.
Immediately, we will see that the password appears in the list along with all the others. Very useful if we have removed the wrong password from the list, but also useful if we are talking about a shared password. Why? Because when we share passwords with someone else, they have permission to edit them and also to delete them.
In this situation, the only way to recover a password that we have shared and someone else has deleted, is with the method we have just seen.
Security is a priority in the digital age, and passwords are a crucial part of it. The new iOS 17 feature gives us more peace of mind when it comes to managing the passwords we store in the iCloud keychain. A small detail that we may not notice until we need it, but at the right time can make a big difference.
