Starring Samuel L. Jackson, the series follows Nick Fury as he battles Gravik, an infiltrated Skrull who is instigating a Third World War to pave the way for an invasion of Earth by his kind. However, throughout the episodes, new characters are revealed to be Skrulls, even deceiving us in many films… like the case of War Machine.

After the last episode of Secret Invasion, many questions remain unanswered: How has this Skrull war affected the Marvel universe? What will happen in future films from the studio, including The Marvels and Avengers: Secret Wars?

The end of Secret Invasion is key to Marvel’s future

In Secret Invasion 1×06, Fury travels to New Skrullos, an abandoned central facility in Russia where the Skrulls led by Gravik reside. However, upon arrival, he finds all the Skrulls defeated, with only Gravik still standing. While Fury is affected by the radiation from the facility, Gravik gives his speech, and the former SHIELD agent offers to give him “The Harvest,” a vial containing the DNA of the most powerful heroes in the MCU, in exchange for leaving Earth and inhabiting another planet.

Gravik decides to take the vial… but he refuses the deal. Instead, he sets a trap, storing the superpowers of the collected villains and heroes within his own body, and attacks Fury. However, there’s a small detail that changes everything. Beneath the appearance of Fury was, in reality, G’iah (Emilia Clarke), Talos’ daughter. She, too, has received these powers, and now both of them are Super-Skrulls engaged in a fierce battle for life or death.

Thanks to the powers of Captain Marvel, G’iah manages to defeat Gravik and end his life. At that moment, Fury reveals that War Machine was a Skrull, and he does so in front of the President of the United States. Finally, the President exposes the Skrull rebellion to the world and announces their intention to try to kill them all… something that Fury finds highly inappropriate.

This development opens the door to various possibilities. The United States, not having ethically heeded Fury’s words, is now against all Skrulls. Fury has left for space alongside Sonya to negotiate with the Kree, who are still angry with the Skrulls, in hopes of achieving peace between the two species. Meanwhile, G’iah has become one of Earth’s most powerful heroines, faced with the choice of siding with humanity or continuing to defend her species against Earth’s attacks.

The consequences of these events will likely be explored in various future Marvel audiovisual projects. The closest one is The Marvels, a movie starring Carol Danvers, where we will likely see the Kree, Nick Fury, and the Skrulls once again.

Additionally, there’s Armor Wars, a series (or movie) that will feature the true War Machine, now liberated thanks to G’iah, confronting the truth after a decade of being imprisoned. Here, we may delve deeper into the looming threat that continues to hover over Earth.

And finally, we have the grand conclusion of everything: Avengers: Secret Wars. It is expected that, after dealing with the Kang invasion, this future movie will delve deeper into the Skrull Rebellion and its consequences. Moreover, it is likely that this will have far-reaching impacts and may even affect future characters such as the Fantastic Four or the X-Men.
