Tesla has officially launched the long-anticipated Cybertruck RWD, setting its starting price at $70,000 for consumers in the United States and Mexico. This new variant, however, comes with a mix of upgraded range and notable sacrifices in features, stirring debate among potential buyers.
The Cybertruck RWD now boasts an impressive 350-mile range, which is a substantial increase over the 250 miles offered by the previously announced model.
While the greater range may entice some buyers, this version also loses several key features. Notable omissions include the second motor, adaptive suspension, powered tonneau cover, and various convenience outlets commonly found in trucks.
Critics Question Market Viability of Tesla’s Stripped-Down Cybertruck RWD
The current pricing suggests an additional $9,000 over the earlier model set at $62,000, though it undercuts the Dual Motor version by $10,000. Critics are already casting doubt on the new model’s market viability at this price point, particularly given the reduction in functionality.
The absence of what many consider essential features raises questions about whether it can compete effectively in the crowded electric vehicle market.
Deliveries of this new Cybertruck model are slated to begin in June 2024, and while the allure of a $7,500 federal tax credit may sweeten the deal for some buyers, many experts believe that the stripped-down nature of this iteration might limit its appeal.
The ongoing challenges surrounding the Cybertruck’s production have also led to speculation that the $62,000 version may not make it to market.
Although Tesla continues to innovate, the company’s strategy behind this new Cybertruck RWD appears to be a balancing act, aiming for broader affordability without compromising the brand’s signature appeal. The automotive community will be watching with interest to see how this latest model performs as it hits the market.
