Xiaomi has taken advantage of the Mobile World Congress to launch MIUI 14, the latest version of its customization layer. This “skin” based on Android is already reinstalled on the new terminals recently presented by the company, the Xiaomi 13, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Lite.

As usual in the company, MIUI 14 has seen the light first in China and after several months of waiting, we finally have in our hands the global version. Know all the new features that MIUI 14 brings to your Xiaomi device and which terminals will be able to install it.

Which devices are compatible with MIUI 14?

A priori, these will be the devices that will be able to upgrade to MIUI 14 during the first quarter of 2023:

  • Xiaomi 12T PRo
  • Xiaomi 12T
  • Xiaomi 12 Pro
  • Xiaomi 12
  • Mi 11 Ultra
  • Mi 11i
  • Xiaomi 12X
  • Xiaomi 12 Lite
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
  • Mi 11 Lite 5G
  • Mi 11 Lite
  • Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro
  • Redmi Note 10
  • Redmi 10 5G
  • POCO M4 5G
  • POCO X3 Pro
  • POCO X4 GT
  • POCO X5 Pro 5G
  • POCO F3
  • POCO F4 GT
  • POCO F4

MIUI 14 features

The latest version of MIUI 14 allows users to share their photos and cloud subscription services with up to 9 people by creating a family account. In addition, automatic compression of apps you don’t use regularly is also included, which helps free up space without uninstalling anything. As if that were not enough, MIUI 14 also allows you to disable notifications from these apps.

Xiaomi has released in MIUI 14 a new feature that will merge the files that we have duplicated and that will provide us with extra space. As with iOS 16 and the new iPhones, MIUI 14 also recognizes and is able to extract text from images. While this feature is not new, Xiaomi explains that it now works much, much better than in previous versions.

Another aspect that has received improvements is privacy, something that many users of the Chinese brand have complained about for years. MIUI 14 now gives us end-to-end encryption and local processing of our data on the device itself.

However, one of the great benefits of MIUI 14 is its improved performance. According to data from the brand, MIUI 14 is 50% faster than MIUI 13 and improves energy efficiency by 22%.

As for its design, we find new (and large) icons where color and simplicity dominate, without neglecting customization. Of course, it is not a brutal change from previous versions, but it does offer a more polished experience.

How do I upgrade to MIUI 14?

Don’t worry: the easiest way to update your terminal is via OTA (Over the Air). To do this, you just need to go to Settings > About phone > MIUI version. Once this is done, our terminal will start checking for updates automatically.

If your device is compatible, the system will inform you that an update is available. Before installing anything, it is recommended that you keep your phone connected to power or at least 50% charged. Keep in mind that any unexpected power outage could turn your Xiaomi into a very expensive paperweight (you know, it’s better to be safe than sorry).
