Affinity Designer
There are many great vector illustration programs available and Affinity Designer is one of the newest. If you're used to Adobe Illustrator you'll find some familiar elements but it also offers it's own touches, making it one of the highest rated newcomers. The best part is the price - all of the rasterizing, and vector drawing tools you'll ever need with a very small price tag of only 69.99 and you don't nee to pay a hefty monthly subscription to use it. Really, there's no reason not to give it a try and see for yourself. More

Affinity Desinger's edge among all the software is its zoom power for more precised details. The grid system helped me a lot when I created icons and isometric video game graphics during my internship. More

This takes lots of the time out of my work, and is pretty sleek. The price is great compared to some of the other stuff as well.

I was able to complete my design with this software, but it lacked some core features of Adobe Photoshop. Overall, I would recommend the latter over this. More

While I have to agree that iilustrator cc is one great vector illustrator program, Inkscape deserves some recognition for a having a distinct native format unlike Adobe's program. The interface is stable and clean so if you are learning vector, this will be a good platform too. Node editing is superb! More

I really wish that they would have some screenshots of the software or something besides just a text page. It doesn't really help me to understand what the software is. I would like to see more before I download it. More

I have used plenty of programs that have similar features and functionality, but Inkscape takes the cake with how streamlined all of its features are, not to mention that the cost of the software is significantly less expensive than its main competitors. More

It's photoshop! If you haven't heard of it then I question where you've been. The only downside I can tell anyone is that it's expensive. However if you're seriously looking for great software, this is the top end and well worth the price. More

While the interface could use a bit of refining, the sheer amount of brushes, mirror tools, brush stabilizers, and the fact that it's free makes it a worthy contender for both vector illustrations and digital painting. Supports .PSD files and works on Windows, Mac AND Linux!

To all those mac users like me, good news! Illustrator cc 2018 supports macbook touch bar. Perhaps the best part of the update is its intuitive properties panel. C'mon, any illustrator will surely agree that easy acess to the tools, effects, and other options is a plus. Scaling and skewing your vector will be a lot easier. More

I'm always on the look out of a good graphics editor and I have to say I've never quite come across like the Adobe Illustrator CC. It's almost like casting a wand and creating magic on a blank sheet. My biggest grip with it is that there is no free trial but at 19.99 per month, that's a steal really for what it does. More

Painter is a complete solution for professional graphics designers and artists looking for realistic results. This software offers a wide range of progressive drawing tools, natural brushes, making it a great complement to Adobe Photoshop.
by Ron Bel null
This app will put a one time(!) ten bucks on your wallet. But you will have full ability to draw anything you like, have the layers, masks and everything. You can enjoy what is offered, but also have the freedom to create your own brushes. If you are used to Photoshop it takes a week or two to get stuff going but there are loads of peeps posting tricks and tipps to help you along. As compared to Adobe software the price difference is ridicoulous. Another thing is that an update here is really an update and you get new toys. For free. I'ts not just another 20 different ways you can create drop shadows. I'm currently in the process of moving from Photoshop for illustration to Procreate because I find it to be more user friendly, intinuative and most of all: cheaper. It offers shitloads of features that Adobe doesn't. We've got some real time saving options here. Downside - There had to be one - putting text in to your stuff with true font types needs workarounds and that just is annoying. But as a cartoonist it just motivated me to write my own text which is actually a plus.
